Library Technician

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Manager of Library Services, you will be responsible to maintain a comfortable and functional facility for study and library research for students and staff.  Duties will include:
  • Managing the day to day operation of the library by implementing College library system policies and procedures.
  • Providing research assistance, reference services and information seeking techniques.
  • Delivering orientation and instruction in information competencies.
  • Using integrated library software to monitor all resource inventory and overdues and provide reports.
  • Selecting, scanning and distributing current awareness information.
  • Creating promotional materials.
  • Recruiting, hiring, scheduling, and training student library assistants.
  • Performing general office duties. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post secondary education in a related field (preference will be given to candidates with a community college Library Technician’s diploma).
  • A minimum of two years related experience.
  • Information literacy skills, including knowledge and use of the internet as a research tool, online databases, office software and integrated library systems.  
  • Knowledge of adult education theory and practice.
  • Instructional or help-desk experience. 
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communications skills as well as the ability to work independently and be part of a team are also required. 
  • Willingness to undertake a wide variety of tasks in areas of public and technical service.

Salary:

$25.56 to $28.86
